    STAFF STUDENT RELATIONS/SCOPE OF EMPLOYMENT

    1. Staff members shall be expected to regard each student as an individual and to accord each student the rights and respect due any individual. Students shall be treated with courtesy and consideration. Neither insults nor sarcasm shall be used as a way of forcing compliance.

    2. School instruction, counseling, and other administrative tasks relating to students which require the presence of students should be accomplished on school premises within the normal school day. Whenever it becomes necessary for a UCAS employee to meet with a student outside of the school day, or to conduct instruction outside of the school premises, such work should be conducted with the written approval of the school principal.

    3. UCAS personnel are not authorized to invite school-aged students to the employee’s home. After school social activities should, whenever possible, be conducted on school premises. In all cases, the prior written approval of the school principal must be obtained.

    4. In the event a school activity requires traveling and district employees are called upon to drive or otherwise provide transportation, the activity and transportation must be first approved in writing by the school principal and must comply with all Utah State Risk Management Guidelines. UCAS employees should avoid traveling alone with a single student.
