How do I get involved in NHS?
NHS is a national club, a service oriented club. We ask that our NHS members do 5 hours of service each month. This does not have to be done in one 5 hour chunk, but is usually best done in 20 min sections of simple service. This service can be anything that benefits home, school, community that is outside of your normal duties. If you know that you are a member and are looking for some ideas for service, we (as a school) could use some help in the following areas:
Working with the student council:
- Why NHS? When my daughter was filling out her applications to college, most of the applications asked for extracurricular actives and service rendered. Because she had been in NHS, this was easy and when you add up 5 hours a month of service for every month she was in NHS, it definitely is impressive.
- Who can join NHS? To be eligible to be in NHS, you must be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grades and have completed one or more semesters here at UCAS. You must have a cumulative GPA of a 3.7. To continue as a member in NHS, you need to keep your GPA at a 3.5.
- What do I do to join? We will be sending out invitations to join NHS if you qualify. When you receive your invitation, you goto the front office and pay a $10 fee and we will have an induction ceremony the first part of September. If you have not received an invitation, but are pretty sure you qualify, please see the front office so that we can get you your invitation.
- We are hoping as an NHS club, to really make an impact on our school this year. If you have some service opportunities that you think would be a good fit for our school, please let me know and we will see if we can make that happen.
